Tips To Keep Your Electric Scooter Safe

- Do not charge the battery before 30 to 40 minutes of use.
- Use OEM (original equipment manufacturer) -supplied genuine charger only.
- Keep the battery in a safe place and away from heat, fire sources.
Your EVs house Lithium-ion batteries just like your smartphones but unlike smartphones they are usually stored under direct sun which cause them to heat up and catch fire.

Peak temperature during summer season can cause battery to overheat and cause fire incidents. Besides the weather issue, one of the main reasons for such fire accidents is faulty charging. People use incorrect chargers that supply wrong amount of output current and voltage which cause accidents.
These are technical issues which may cause fire. Accidental damages also may cause fire as the battery gets physically damaged and the cells may get ruptured causing ignition.

Tips to save your electric scooter from catching fire:

Do not charge the battery before 30 to 40 minutes of use, this gives battery some time to cool down.

Use OEM (original equipment manufacturer) -supplied genuine charger only to charge the battery and avoid using any other substitute or locally manufactured charger.
- If the battery case is damaged or water is filled up in the case, contact your electric vehicle dealer. Keep the battery in a safe place and away from heat, fire sources and substances which are corrosive or flammable.
- One of the most important and basic precaution you can take is parking your electric scooter in a shaded area and not directly under the summer sun for long hours.
- When the battery is not charging the charger should be unplugged and both the battery and the charger should be kept in a dry, clean and a well ventilated space.

Electric scooters come with an average range of 80-120 Km, but this range decreases with time due to battery degradation. It becomes very important to take care of the battery of your EV for the longevity of the vehicle and the battery itself. Some tips for maintaining the health of the battery are –
- Avoid exposure to extreme heat or cold and try to keep it at room temperature.
- Use authentic chargers only and avoid non-genuine products.
- Avoid charging the batteries within 1-2 hours after use, let the batteries cool down.
- Do not keep batteries empty or completely full.
- Avoid fast charging, use only if required.
- Try to avoid exposure to harsh sunlight when parked.
