- Learn more about the top EV battery makers in the country.
If you are a fan of the automotive industry, you must already know how quickly the industry is growing and what impact the introduction of electric cars has had on it. However, since most electronic cars in the industry are made in foreign countries, the cars have higher prices here. This has further slowed down the industry. With the new initiative from the government, India is slowly but steadily starting to manufacture EV parts in the country, batteries being the first of the lot. In this article, you will find some of the top names of the industry who are a part of this initiative.
Exide Industries:
The establishment of this company dates back to 1947. They have made several changes in their production schedule since then and have risen to the top of the industry in no time. Known to be the fourth largest manufacturer of industrial and automotive lead-acid batteries, Exide batteries have become a household name in India.

This company has distributorship in over 46 countries. However, its production plants are located in Sri Lanka. Recently the company has been trying its luck in Lithium-ion production from the subsidiary company Exide Leclanche Energy. They have also increased their stake in the company. However, they have not started production just yet; the MD of the company has said that they will consider future requirements and start production by this year's end.
Amara Raja Batteries:
Amara Raja Batteries, the second-largest EV battery manufacturer in India, has also dipped its nose in the game. Second to only Exide Industries, this company brings promise to this industry. The company is mainly popular for its automobile battery brand, Amaron. Apart from batteries, the company has also proved its expertise in other business segments like power system production, packaged foods, infrastructure, and beverages.
They have recently invested more than 200 million rupees in their Tirupati plant to make lithium-ion batteries. The company also has a tie-up with ISRO, meaning that they will help train the employees and set up the plant.
Tata Group:
The world-renowned Tata Group has always been fond of the green community, with EVs as their main focus. They have invested quite a bit in the research and development of methods and ways that they can help make this industry better. Tata Motors was also one of the first to launch a hybrid car in the market.

Along with all of the subsidiary companies, the Tata Group plans to take the whole manufacturing process in-house. This will mean that in the future, you will have electric vehicles made completely in India. The Tata Group is also planning to set up charging stations all across India and start producing Lithium-ion batteries as well.
Hero MotoCorp:
One of the first names that come to any Indian's mind when you say motorbikes is Hero. They have already made their impression in the two-wheeler industry and are now stepping up the ante in the EV space.
The company has already invested in the green technology industry via various other companies, mainly Ather Energy. They have also invested in an all-new plant in Tamil Nadu with the aim of manufacturing E-vehicles. Apart from making vehicles, the company also has plans to enter the lithium-ion battery business and has filed several pending patents for the manufacturing business and designs.
Maruti Suzuki:
A subsidiary of the Japanese company Suzuki, Maruti Suzuki is one of the leading companies in the automotive industry of India. However, recently there has been news of them trying their hand in the Lithium-ion battery industry as well.

This will be a joint venture along with Denso and Toshiba. Maruti Suzuki's Smart Hybrid uses an innovative tech that helps improve driving performance as well as fuel efficiency. In the right circumstances, the engine will pause at idle, and the vehicle comes with two Lithium-ion batteries.
These are five of the top companies in India who have made an effort and taken it on them to make India a green economy. While a few of the companies mentioned here have yet to start working on their projects, they have surely made an impression and led the way for many other smaller companies to come.
