Volkswagen Confirms ID Branded California Electric Van

- The new California model will likely not launch next year
- The ID.Buzz will be launching next year and is already in testing
- The camper variant will also be more expensive upwards of $50,000
For a while, it has been known that Volkswagen has been working on an electric van based on its iconic minibus from the 70s and 80s. It has even shown off the ID.Buzz concept but now it has confirmed plans for a van called the ID California electric camper van. This was shown off in a presentation. The ID.Buzz concept was first unveiled in 2017 which was quite flashy but over the years it has evolved the concept.
The company has plans of bringing the electric van to the US market by 2023 and has even invested in the production of the electric microbus in the US. Production is expected to start both in Germany and the US. It will also have a camper variant, something indicated by the California nomenclature which is something Volkswagen uses for its camper models.

The ID.Buzz is already being tested
Specs-wise, this minibus is expected to have a 100 kWh battery pack, perhaps something even larger. The ID.Buzz had a 111 kWh battery pack which can deliver a 321 km range. The standard model could be priced at lower than $50,000 but the camper variant will almost certainly have a higher price tag as already the traditional internal combustion engine variants are more expensive.
While the ID. Buzz is expected to launch next year, the California model could take longer.
