Even after these centuries of revolution in the automotive industry, automobile enthusiasts are head over heels in love with diesel engines for the powerful performance they deliver. Moreover, with climate change becoming a harsh reality of the modern world, authorities are promoting greener fuel options. So, what does the future holds for diesel engines in the industry? Is it always about mileage?
The last couple of decades has witnessed massive evolution in diesel engine technology, making it a preferred option for automobile enthusiasts! Experts justify that an electromagnetic mechanism wins over an ignition system at all times. Then there are some who can't compromise with mileage and can go to any extent to save some bucks, even if it means tolerating the noise, pungent smell, and toxic gases.
Truckers love the low-end torque of diesel engines as well as the ability to operate at high altitudes. Moreover, diesel engines offer better mileage and require minimal maintenance!

The research throws light on the pollution levels of diesel-powered vehicles that continue to violate the air-quality levels of Denver and adjacent areas. They analyzed the gaseous and particle emissions of vehicles passing by, by setting up devices on highways that operated as a spectroscope to keep track of pollution levels from vehicle engines. In addition, the devices were capable of capturing license plates to help know the vehicle model and engine type. The study concluded that the new cars with modern diesel engines are better than gasoline engines in curbing pollution.

Electric vehicles; a viable alternative?
The question is, why are people still obsessed with diesel when a better option in the form of electric vehicles is quickly gaining traction? Here are some possible reasons.
Unlike past decades, the newer generations of diesel engines are not that noisy; rather are much quieter. Vibration has waned greatly, and heaters accompanying the cars have also solved the troubles while kicking off the engine during winters. Measures to address pollution have also been taken into account. Doesn't that seem like the new diesel engines have taken care of all the concerns of the environmentalists?
With particulate filters mandatory in the new models, pollutants like soot from diesel have fallen considerably. Therefore, the newer engines are not causes for concerns, unlike earlier when they emit huge amounts of nitrous oxide. However, now that the diesel engines run on low-sulfur fuel and are accompanied by filters, we must rethink before blaming them as agents of vehicular pollution!
In the present scenario, people who are concerned about alarming pollution levels have already shifted to plan B; or at least they have made up their mind. The gasoline engines tend to be expensive, and diesel engines are not completely free of snags. Then, how about electric engines? With minimal noise and vibration, lower pollution, and higher economic efficiency, electric engines are slowly conquering the automotive market. All environmentalists believe that there will be a day when electric engines would have completely replaced diesel engines. Fingers crossed for more revolutions in this regard!
