Key Highlights
- The Concept_One from Rimac Automobili did beat the LaFerrari
- The Tesla P90 D is the closest to Concept_One in the electric car world
- The Concept_One makes 1088hp of power and 1600Nm of torque
'Impossible’ that will be your expression when you hear a car from a small Croatian company; made in a country that never had a car industry; with extremely limited funding and, worst of all, without a combustion engine, beat the best thing on four street-legal-tyres that ever came out of Maranello.
Well, I’m referring to Concept_One from Rimac. British racing driver and YouTuber Archie Hamilton wanted to find out how fast the Concept_One really is and so he went to Croatia and brought with him a Tesla P90 D with Ludicrous Mode and the ultimate road-going Ferrari – LaFerrari. Well, the Concept_One from Rimac Automobili did beat the LaFerrari. Forget about it being a hybrid car, LaFerrari gets the advantage of naturally aspirated V12, but in terms of performance, the road-friendly Tesla P90 D is the closest thing to Concept_One in the electric car world.
Let’s find out How Concept_One got the crown for electric performance, the first thing the beast has got is tons of torque with four motors and four gearboxes belting out a monstrous 1600Nm and 1088hp of sheer power, all of which is connected to the tarmac with Concept_One's tyres. The folks at Rimac claim that the powertrain has the potential for a bit more and is 90 per cent efficient. The electric supercar recorded a top speed of 335 km/h and attained the 0-100 km/h in 2.6 seconds, just a second behind its bigger brother the Concept S that churns out 1384hp of power and 1800Nm of torque.
Next up the cooling system of the Concept_One. Most electric cars stall after a short run because of overheating. However, the Concept_One has seven independent cooling systems and several smaller sub-systems that help keep things cool. Last but not least, the independent gearbox plays its crucial role here which is connected to the four motors. Point to note is that the front motors have single ratio reduction gearboxes, while the rear motors have their own two-speed dual carbon clutch gearbox which helps the Concept_One to have smooth and quick acceleration even at high speeds.
Talking about dimensions, Rimac's electric supercar measures 4146mm on length and has a width of 1854mm, with 1070mm in height and a wheelbase of 2563mm. The ground clearance stands at 105mm and 115mm at the front and rear respectively for improved stability.
The Concept_one stands a step ahead above all with its ‘all wheel Torque Vectoring' which provides unseen flexibility and grip by controlling each wheel individually one hundred times per second. Drivers can choose between various modes to perfectly match their preferences, skills and given situation.
