Japan-based Yokohama Rubber has started commercial production at its first manufacturing plant in India at Bahadurgarh, Haryana. The company had built the plant by investing Rs. 300 crore and it has an installed capacity of 2,000 tyres per day.
With the start of commercial production, the maximum production capacity can be scaled to three or even four folds in the next phase of the company's growth strategy in India. Inaugurated in February, the plant will be responsible for the manufacture of the Yokohama Earth-1 tyres which are designed specifically for India.
Yokohama says that the Earth-1 tyres are rugged enough to handle the bumps and the strains of Indian road conditions and a lot of R&D has gone into making the tyre.
