Mercedes-Benz C-Class is World Car of the Year 2015
Highlights
It is undoubtedly the world's most prestigious automobile honour, and all manufacturers covet these awards the most. The World Car of the Year has been on for over a decade now, and has quickly become the top global automobile award.
This year there was a field of really smart, efficient and dynamic nominees, and we have been bringing you all the updates on the process. The Mercedes-Benz C-Class has beaten the Ford Mustang and Volkswagen Passat to win the World Car of the Year 2015. The Passat came in with 753 points from the Jurors, the Mustang had 722, but the C-Class was way ahead at 803 points!
Mercedes-Benz has had a superb year by making it a hattrick - winning World Performance Car for the AMG GT and World Luxury Car of the Year for the S-Class Coupé. The GT beat the BMW M3/M4 and Jaguar FType R Coupé, which was the 1st runner-up here. The S-Coupé stayed just ahead of the Range Rover Autobiography Long Wheelbase and the BMW i8.
Interestingly, Mercedes-Benz had made it to the top three in all 5 categories. The C-Class was runner-up to the Citroen C4 Cactus for World Car Design of the Year, while the World Green Award was bagged by the BMW i8, which beat the Mercedes-Benz S500e and Volkswagen GTE.
The World Car Awards are voted on by 75 jurors around the globe. These are leading motoring journalists from over 20 countries. They vote on all eligible candidates to choosre the top ten, following which a second round of voting determines the top 3 and the winners. The Awards are tabulated by KPMG, and then handed out at an event organised on the sidelines of the New York International Auto Show.
