- This is the first ZR1 drop-top since the original 1970 model-year ZR1
- The convertible goes on sale next spring alongside Corvette ZR1 coupe
- The ZR1 convertible is priced at Rs. 79.92 lakh
At the ongoing 2017 LA Auto Show, Chevrolet dropped the top on the 2019 Corvette ZR1 with the global introduction of the ZR1 convertible, the first ZR1 drop-top since the original 1970 model-year ZR1. On sale next spring alongside the Corvette ZR1 coupe, the performance and technology introduced on the Corvette ZR1 coupe carry over to the new ZR1 convertible. The ZR1 coupe will carry a suggested retail price of $119,995 (Rs. 77.34 lakh), while the ZR1 convertible will start at $123,995 (Rs. 79.92 lakh). Corvette is pinning its hopes on the 8th generation Corvette ZR1 to set a new benchmark for the company in the sports performance segment.

Mark Reuss, Executive Vice President, Global Product Development said, "The new Corvette ZR1 convertible is a supercar in all respects. Few others can challenge the ZR1 convertible's power and speed while offering the exhilaration of top-down motoring."
Tadge Juechter, Corvette Executive Chief Engineer said, "The ZR1 convertible is a no-compromise supercar. Thanks to the strong structure, the suspension tuning between coupe and convertible models is identical, meaning the ZR1 convertible offers the same benchmark performance, including a top speed of over 321 kmph."

At heart of the Corvette ZR1 is the company's most advanced LT5 6.2L V-8 engine that can churn out maximum power of 744 BHP and peak torque of 969 Nm, mated to a 7-Speed manual transmission and a ZR1-first paddle-shift 8-Speed automatic transmission. With a top speed of over 337 kmph, the 2019 Corvette ZR1 can go from standstill to 100kmph in under 3 seconds.

The 8th generation Corvette is more powerful than the 2015 Corvette ZO6, which came with a 6.2-ltre LT4 supercharged V8 engine, with power output of 650 BHP and 881NM of peak torque. While the Corvette ZO6 was considered to be fastest production car a few years ago, the mantle has now been taken over by the new generation Corvette ZR1.
