2017 Mahindra Scorpio Facelift Spotted Testing In India
- The Mahindra Scorpio facelift will be launched by July or August 2017
- The Scorpio facelift will also get a more efficient 6-speed auto gearbox
- The updated Scorpio will come with considerable cosmetic changes
Earlier this month we told you that the Mahindra Scorpio Facelift is slated to be launched in India later this year. The home-grown automaker has already started testing the updated 2017 Scorpio in India and recently one of the test mules was spotted with minimal camouflage. Considering this is just a mid-life facelift for the iconic Mahindra Scorpio, most of the changes are superficial and cosmetic and mechanically the SUV will remain unchanged. Mahindra is likely to launch the Scorpio facelift in India towards the end of July or early August this year.
As you can see from the latest spy image, only the front and the rear sections of the SUV have been camouflaged. This indicates that Mahindra has redesigned the front grille, headlamps, tails lamps and both front and rear bumper of the Scorpio. Judging by the pictures, the front grille of the Scorpio will be largely similar to the Mahindra Imperio's grille, which came with those large boxy chrome inserts. The revised front bumper now comes with a wide horizontal air dam and better air inflow and possibly a little less aggressive.
Now, the styling of the current generation Mahindra Scorpio received mixed reactions when the company launched the SUV back in 2014. While many liked the aggressive and bold appearance of the SUV, there were few who thought Mahindra went a little overboard with the design. And it seems Mahindra has taken this into consideration and toned the styling down a bit, something that we've seen them do to the Scorpio. For instance, the plastic cladding on the new Scorpio, which was highly criticised by many, has been given a complete miss. Instead, the SUV now comes with the body coloured unit that is currently seen in this test mule.
We are yet to see the changes made to the Scorpio facelift's cabin, but we expect quite a few updates like - redesigned dashboard, new touchscreen infotainment unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, and new upholstery. In addition, the Scorpio will also come with Ecosense, Connected Apps and the Emergency-Call feature, which we have been seeing in Mahindra cars.
Powertrain options will remain unchanged as the Mahindra Scorpio Facelift will continue to feature the tried and tested 2.2-litre mhawk diesel engine will continue to serve purpose churning out 120 bhp of power and 280 Nm of torque. That said the Mahindra is expected to introduce a new 6-speed automatic gearbox with the older one now being discontinued, in addition to the standard 5-speed manual unit. The auto box will be the same 6-speed Aisin sourced torque converter that does duty on the XUV500.
