The next generation 992 Porsche 911 will be making its debut later this year, but the German automaker wants to keep fans and buyers excited about its new flagship. With the full reveal still sometime away, the automaker has released three images of the near-production prototype of the 2019 Porsche 911 covered in camouflage. The new generation sports car will be an evolution of the current model, as is the case with all 911s in the past, and will also adopt a hybrid powertrain sometime in the future.

While Porsche hasn't revealed any details about the 911 along with the images, the company does go on to state that the new 911 won't be an electric sports car but "it could be an option somewhere down the line." While a fully electric powertrain can be ruled out for now, Porsche has hinted towards a hybrid engine making it to the 911. Previous reports have suggested that the new generation 911 Hybrid will be a plug-in type model and is expected to arrive sometime around 2023. Power figures on the hybrid aren't confirmed yet but rumours say power will be in the vicinity of 485 bhp and 761 Nm of peak torque.

Porsche's press note on the 992 911 also speaks about the two-door coupe still being a driver's car. "The joy of driving always has to be in the foreground. That's why a 911 will always have a steering wheel." With autonomous cars being seen as the future of mobility, Porsche did said that "The 911 will be one of the last cars to drive autonomously."

With respect to design, expect the 2019 Porsche 911 to grow slightly in dimensions while retaining its "evolutionary" familiar design language. The new generation 911 is based on the evolved MMB platform, which will see more weight savings on the new car. The new car makes use of aluminium and high-strength steel in its construction. The cabin will also be more digitally connected this time round, with more tech wizardry and a digital interface added to the mix.

Porsche hasn't confirmed power figures yet on the new 911, but the coupe will be offered in a number of variants including the Carrera 2S and 4S, Targa top and turbo charged versions. Reportedly, the top-of-the-line 911 will be the Turbo S variant with up to 630 bhp on tap, up from the current 572 bhp from the updated 3.8-litre flat-six cylinder engine. Meanwhile, the naturally aspirated version will have powered limited to about 592 bhp, an increase of over 61 bhp over the current model.

Porsche is expected to unveil the new generation 911 at the Paris Motor Show in October this year. So expect more details to be out as we get closer to the official unveil.
