Anand Mahindra Says It’s A Privilege To Have Competition From Tata Motors

Tata and Mahindra have long been rivals in the automotive space be it for their range of passenger vehicles or even the commercial vehicle market. Mahindra and Tata both offer a range of SUVs sitting in rivalling segments from the subcompact XUV300 and Nexon to the mid-size XUV700 and the Harrier and Safari. In recent month, though Tata has seen a notable change in its market performance with growing sales pushing the company to close in on India’s no. 2 carmaker Hyundai Motor India. However, while the two companies may be competitors, it hasn’t stopped Anand Mahindra, Mahindra Group Chairman from commending the company’s rival.
In response to a tweet asking about his views on Tata Motors, Anand Mahindra said that it was “a privilege to have strong competitors like Tata Motors” and that their push to constant reinvent themselves in the market only inspired Mahindra to “to do even better” and that “competition spurs Innovation.”
Mahindra has seen some good success in its recent launches including the likes of the new Thar and the XUV700 which currently accounts for a significant portion of the bookings received by the company. The carmaker recently also announced prices for the new Scorpio-N with the company saying that based on initial impression it could see greater demand than even the XUV700.
The question arose in response to another of Mahindra’s tweet thanking twitter user Harinder S Sikka on his views on the XUV700. Sikka had test driven a friend’s car and had tagged Mahindra when sharing his views. In his tweet Mahindra said that “the best endorsements are from people with no bias - for or against - via a random encounter with the vehicle” while also describing Mahindra’s auto team as ‘passioneers’. “My passion can be taken for granted, but it springs directly from the entire auto team, who, in fact, are called #Passioneers,” Anand Mahindra had tweeted.
Mahindra is now turning its attention to the electric vehicle segment with five new passenger EVs to arrive by 2027. The company has already confirmed the debut of the all-electric XUV400 for September with its new ‘Born Electric’ range of purpose built EVs set spawn four new SUVs. The company will reveal more details on its born electric range on August 15.
