April Fools Day 2022: Jokes By Car Companies And Auto Publications

- Honda introduces a co-driver seat for your dog
- Isuzu teases a sub-compact D-Max pickup
- Auto publications publish some unique stories online
April 1 gives people the perfect occasion to pull a fast one on people. Be it small pranks or as we sometimes like to do give you people news that would have you at the edge of your seat. We take you on a spin through some of the news doing the rounds on April 1 that is not quite real.
From Car manufacturers
Caterham – Cater-hams Sevenses

Now snack on Cater-hams while you drive or build your next Caterham. Caterham's latest product are self-assembled snacks to go with its range of DIY kit cars. Well, we're sure someone will like some Caterham shaped ham and cheese bites in their next track day snack to go with their Caterham. And they're making it for the world too with a choice of cheese for your local market.
Isuzu – D-Max Street

Sub-compact SUVs are all the craze in India so how about a sub-compact pick-up truck too. Parking would surely not be a hassle compared to its full-size brethren and the bed looks like it has enough space for atleast a shopping trip. So what are your thoughts on this? Should this April Fools gag be made real or is it just that bit too cringe worthy.
Honda – Pet Co-pilot front seat

How about a car seat designed specifically for your pets' needs? Well Honda says they've got one. It's developed for dogs so far though Honda says its new product will be available for cats, hamsters, guinea pigs, rabbits and fish too in the future. The factory option includes a waterproof and water resistant seat, cut-outs within the seats for your dog's food dish, an automatic snack dispenser within the gloverbox and an in-built squeaky toy too. And they're even going to make one for a horse! I'd like to see how that will turn out.
Dodge - Demon Yellow Eye

Dodge's April Fools Day treat was as subtle as an eye colour change - but as we know this measly change can promise a lot. Take the Hellcat for example, the Challenger Hellcat Red Eye made almost 90 bhp more than the regular Hellcat. Now a possible upgrade to the already ridiculous 840 bhp Challenger Demon? We wouldn't hold our breath on Dodge actually rolling out an upgraded Demon, but wouldn't that be a fitting send-off for its supercharged V8!
Auto Publications
Top Gear UK – Land Rover Discovery sports car

Well to get right off the bat, a two seat sportscar in the same vein as a Porsche Cayman from Land Rover does sound a little far-fetched. You have to consider that it's the Jaguar portion of Jaguar Land Rover that's decidedly into the low two and four-door sportscar and sedan segments. If that didn't clue you in we're sure the names, launch date and even the quotes would easily give this away. A hand crank start and manual choke in 2022? Their rendering though does look quite realistic.

Motor Octane – Suzuki Jimny launched

Well they did try to pull a fast one and we're sure its caught a lot of people's attention. The Jimny is probably one of the most anticipated Maruti launches for India probably aside from the Swift Sport which was shown at multiple Auto Expos but never really arrived – we got the Baleno RS instead. Well they went the distance with prices and the works including variant details and the more and just to close it out a nice scrawl wishing you a pleasant April Fool.

Rushlane – Six-star Global NCAP Tata Safari

There is a lot to like about Tata's Safari from its big Saturday SUV feel, strong engine and spacious cabin to all the small updates Tata has rolled out to make it even more feature rich. While we agree it is a tough SUV a six-star rating at Global NCAP is just pushing the imagination a little too far.
Tata Motors nonetheless has had a very good recent history with Global NCAP crash tests so when its actually tested we expect it to do well.

Now lets turn in-house
Exclusive: Tesla To Launch CBU Model 3 In India After Committing Gigafactory For The Market

Tesla and an India entry just doesn't seem to be happening with the current saga over tax breaks looking to further push back any plans. True they have opened an India office but things just seem to be on the back burners currently with each years promising an entry in the following year. We're also still waiting to see if India does get a Tesla Gigafactory too. Sorry if some of you got excited about officially buying a Tesla but like with everything on this list its too good to be true – Atleast for now.
Mahindra and Tata All Charged-Up To Partner On Joint EV Project

A joint venture between two heavyweights in Tata and Mahindra to develop EVs for India would surely get people excited. Tata's taken the EV segment by storm with the Nexon EV and Mahindra isn't too far away from re-launching EVs of their own featuring some state-of-the-art powertrains. However, there is just one damper, it isn't quite true.
Fire Safe Stickers To Extinguishers On-Board, New Rules For Electric Two-Wheelers

Yes safety is becoming a primary concern especially considering the recent spate of electric two-wheeler fires. The government has indeed ordered a probe into the incidents following the recent OLA Electric scooter fire though it will be a few months at the very least before any conclusive results are announced or any preventive measures being notarised. Sadly while additional measures would be nice, this story is just an April Fools day prank.
Royal Enfield Fury 650 Sports Bike Under Development

A new Royal Enfield with a historical name based on the global 650cc platform would surely get bike fans going. And the good news (for us) is, WE Got You Good. April Fools! While Royal Enfield is indeed developing more bikes undoubtedly, this is nothing more than us pulling your leg.
