Production of Smallest Audi SUV, Q2, Begins in Ingolstadt

- Q2 made its world premiere at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show
- The Audi Q2 is the smallest SUV in the carmaker's line-up
- It is underpinned by the Volkswagen Group's MQB platform
The Audi Q2 is produced on the A3 line, where it passes through the body shop, paint shop and assembly together with the Audi A3. The company is also gradually increasing the new SUV's production to approximately 450 units a day. Albert Mayer, plant director at the Audi site in Ingolstadt, said, "The start of series production of a new model is always a great challenge and something special for a plant and its employees. We are proud to be building the Audi Q2 - the Q-family entry model - here in Ingolstadt for the world market."

(The Audi Q2 is based on Volkswagen's MQB platform)
Styled by Audi's design chief Marc Lichte, the Q2 sports a high-mounted octagonal Singleframe grille, large air inlets, a low roof merging into the C-pillars, short overhangs, a long roof spoiler, and a rear diffuser.
The new Audi Q SUV will be offered with a choice of 6 engines in Europe, namely, a 114bhp 1.0-litre three-cylinder TFSI, 148bhp 1.4-litre four-cylinder petrol, 187bhp 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol, 114bhp 1.6-litre four-cylinder diesel, 148bhp 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel, and 187bhp 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel. The selection of transmissions will include a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed S tronic dual clutch.
In India, the SUV is likely to be powered by the 2.0-litre diesel engine. Audi is expected to bring the Q2 SUV to India in 2017 with a price tag ranging between Rs. 25 lakh - Rs. 32 lakh.
