It's faster and Bentley says it's every bit better and that is why the company has taken the wraps off the limited-run Continental GT3-R. The car is based on the track-only Continental GT3 and comes with more power housed inside a lighter body.
The people at Bentley say that the GT3-R version of the Continental has lost a massive 100 kgs through the rear seat removal and the adoption of a titanium exhaust system. The car has also got lightweight forged 21-inch alloy wheels wrapped around Pirelli tyres.
The loss of weight means that it goes faster than before but Bentley thought of adding more power to make it even better. The GT3-R gets a 4.0-litre V8 twin-turbo which has turbochargers with a higher boost and a new engine control software which have bumped output from 520bhp and 680 Nm torques at 6,000 rpm and 700 Nm from as low as 1,700 rpm.
The engine is mated to an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission that channels output to an all-wheel drive system featuring a torque vectoring system. Now, the weight loss and added power translateds into better timings as well and the Continental GT3-R can sprint from 0-100km/h in just 3.8 seconds. Top speed however has been electronically limited to 273 km/h but this is due to the gearbox's shorter gearing.
Bentley plans to make only 300 units of the GT3-R and all of them will wear a Glacier White paint with glossy carbon fibre contrasts on the headlamp bezels, bumpers strips and grille while the side profile will boast two-tone green graphics.
