BMW i8 Spyder Scheduled For Debut In Late 2017

The BMW i8 drew a lot of sharp breaths, dropped many a jaw and turned quite a few heads when it first made an appearance, with its futuristic look. Now imagine an i8 without the roof, like in the pic. Yes! We got that feeling too. The German manufacturer has confirmed that it will introduce the i8 Roadster along with a mid-life facelift for the i8 at the end of 2017.

It might be possible that BMW calls the i8 roadster a 'Spyder'. The design elements might be similar to the BMW I Vision Future Interaction concept shown here. It was first showcased at the 2016 Consumers Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The new 2018 model will have a 1.5-litre 3-cylinder turbo engine and an updated synchronous electric motor, which takes the total power output to 426bhp or so, which is a 10 per cent rise over the current model's power output.

There will be updates to the cabin and technology inside as well. The i8 and the Roadster might include some tech from the concept that was shown at the 2016 CES such as a gesture controlled infotainment system and so on.
