BMW India Rolls Out 50,000th Locally Produced Car

- The 50,000th car is an example of the all-new BMW 7 Series
- Level of localisation at the plant has been increased to upto 50 per cent
- Currently upto 8 models are produced at the BMW Plant Chennai
BMW today rolled out the 50,000th car locally produced at its facility in Chennai. The car, an example of the all-new BMW 7 Series, was recently launched here in February, 2016. Dr. Jochen Stallkamp, Managing Director, BMW Plant Chennai said, "It is with great pride that we are rolling-out the 50,000th car locally produced at BMW Plant Chennai. Each and every BMW that is locally produced is of the same international standards as anywhere else in the world and brings a smile on the faces of our customers. Highly skilled employees, advanced manufacturing processes along with state-of-the-art machinery and technology provide all the necessary ingredients to achieve these tough standards. We are proud of this achievement and look forward to many such milestones in the future."

The new BMW 7 Series was launched at Auto Expo 2016 by Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar. The carmaker's flagship sedan is priced between Rs. 1.1 crore - Rs. 1.5 crore (ex-showroom, Delhi) and is locally assembled at BMW's Chennai facility. The new generation model sports a larger and wider kidney grille, a bulging hood with neat character lines and a strong shoulder line running up till the LED tail-lamps. It also gets the BMW i8's Laserlight head-lamps, along with a myriad of futuristic technologies.
To commemorate the the 'Make in India' initiative, the German automaker has further increased the level of localisation at its Chennai plant to upto 50 per cent. BMW India's plant in Chennai started operations in 2007 and currently produces upto 8 models on two assembly lines. The list of cars produced at the BMW Plant Chennai include the BMW 1 Series, the BMW 3 Series, the BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo, the BMW 5 Series, the BMW 7 Series, the BMW X1, the BMW X3, and the BMW X5.
