After a lot of wait, spy shots and some leaked images of the car, BMW has officially unveiled the 2015 X6 crossover. The redesigned model follows in the footsteps of its predecessor as it adopts a sporty exterior and BMW goes on to say that the model features improved aerodynamics and additional standard equipment including bi-xenon headlights, an automatic tailgate and 19-inch alloy wheels.
Inside the new X6, the cabin is more or less like the X5 and comes nicely equipped with a sport steering wheel, Dakota leather seats and an iDrive infotainment system with up to a 10.25-inch display. Other features like dual zone climate control system, centre console-mounted knee pads and a luggage compartment that can hold to 1,525 litres of cargo also make their way into the car.
BMW will offer the new X6 in three different engines internationally. The xDrive 50i will come with a 4.4-litre TwinPower Turbo V8 engine that will produce about 450bhp and 650 Nm torque. All this power will enable the model to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 4.8 seconds before hitting a top speed of 250 km/h.
Then there is the diesel version - the xDrive30d which gets the 3.0-litre TwinPower Turbo six-cylinder engine giving it 258bbhp and 560 Nm of torque. The X6 will be capable of doing a run from 0-100km/h in 6.7 seconds and hit a top speed of 230 km/h.
BMW is planning an M Sport variant and that will come with the usual aerodynamic body kit, a matte aluminium grille and 19-inch lightweight alloy wheels while the interiors of the car will also see an upgrade. Then there is the Adaptive M suspension and a self-levelling rear air suspension.
And the M version will get the third engine. This will be the M50d which will be powered by a tri-turbocharged 3.0-litre six-cylinder diesel engine that develops around 381bhp and 740 Nm torque. It zooms to 100km/h in 5.2 seconds and boasts of a top speed of 250 km/h.
BMW says that the 2015 X6 will weigh up to 40 kg less than its predecessor thanks to an intelligent mix of lightweight materials such as aluminium, magnesium and thermoplastics. The new X6 has certainly evolved and BMW might bring this updated product to India too but not this year. The car will go on sale in Europe in December this year but BMW will officially launch the car probably at the Moscow Auto Show.
