Delhi Government Impounds 270 Old Diesel, Petrol Vehicles Between October 1-20

The Delhi Government's Transport department has impounded 270 diesel and petrol driven vehicles between October 1-20, 2021. According to a report in PTI, the government officials have intensified enforcement against old vehicles and issued a statement to this effect. The drive to enforce this rule had started since last year but from January to October 2021, the transport department has impounded 664 vehicles which include over 10-year-old diesel and over 15-year-old petrol cars. The PTI report also says that a senior Transport Department officer has stated that the process for scrapping over 300 of these vehicles has started.

Although Registration Certificates (RC) of all types of vehicles are valid for 15 years, diesel vehicles cannot ply beyond 10 years in Delhi

The department had earlier issued a public notice and advised owners of petrol and diesel vehicles, 15 years and 10-year old respectively, not to ply on the roads and get them scrapped at authorised centres.The department has also clarified that although Registration Certificates (RC) of all types of vehicles are valid for 15 years, diesel vehicles cannot ply beyond 10 years in Delhi.

According to official data released by the government, in September the Transport Department impounded 132 diesel and 262 petrol cars.
