Volvo unveiled its new estate concept ahead of 2014 Geneva Motorshow and it is every bit striking to look at. This is the third concept car from the Volvo stable and it gives us a peek into what the XC90 SUV might look like.
The Estate concept will make its debut at the Geneva Motorshow and follows the Concept coupe from the Frankfurt Motorshow and the Concept XC Coupe from the Detroit Motorshow. The Estate concept carries forward the design language illustrated by the other two concept cars.
"The basic idea is to organise controls and information in a perfectly intuitive and user-friendly way," said Volvo design boss Thomas Ingenlath. "Everything is exactly where you'd expect it to be, making the drive more enjoyable, efficient and safe."
Volvo wants to depict the future in these concept cars and that is why there is a touchscreen which uses established tablet gestures like swiping and pinching, and runs software developed in-house by Volvo. There are four stackable tiles on the display screen, with navigation at the top, and media, telephone and climate control below.
This three-door concept estate is inspired by the Volvo 1800 ES of the early 1970s and uses Volvo's new modular SPA platform.
The Estate seats four people and the rear seats can be folded to create a big loading space. The Estate is likely to get the new and efficient Drive-E engine range but the technical details have not yet been shared.
We'll see this concept Estate closely at the Geneva Motorshow and we'll get you more information soon.
