Honda Cars India Recalls 3,669 Cars To Replace Takata Airbag Inflators

- The affected Honda Accord units were manufactured between 2003-2006
- Honda will carry out the rectification free of cost
- Honda will reach out to customers of affected Accord cars
Honda Cars India has announced that it will voluntarily replace Takata driver front airbag inflators from 3,669 units of the Honda Accord, which were manufactured between 2003 and 2006. This voluntary recall is a part of Honda's precautionary global recall campaign regarding Takata front airbag inflators. The replacement will be carried out free of cost at Honda dealerships across the country from starting from April 18, 2019. Honda Cars India will reach out to each customer regarding the same. Honda suggests that the Accord customers check their 17-characted vehicle identification number on the company's website as well. This is the ninth time that HCIL has issued a recall in India regarding Takata airbag inflators.

In January 2018, Honda Cars India issued a recall for 22,834 vehicles in the country to fix the faulty front passenger airbag inflators. The affected models were all manufactured were fitted with airbag system from Takata Corporation In fact, this was the eighth wave of recall for India and the affected models include - the previous generation Honda City, Jazz and Accord, all of which were manufactured in 2013.

The company also issued a statement with regards to the latest recall saying, "As part of the Takata airbag inflator recalls which have impacted several car makers globally, Honda Cars India continues to urge owners of Honda vehicles affected by the recall to get their vehicles repaired at authorized dealers as soon as possible. Vehicle owners can check their vehicles' recall status at the company's website or by calling authorised Honda dealer. HCIL reiterates the importance of replacing the affected Takata front airbag inflators urgently as they may deploy with excessive internal pressure when activated. The airbag inflator casing might rupture which may result in injury or safety risk to the vehicle occupants."
