Hyundai Elite i20 - Over 12,000 Bookings in 15 Days

Hyundai's latest addition in its portfolio, the Elite i20, is raking in just the kind of numbers the company hoped it would. The company has received over 12,000 bookings for the premium compact car within 15 days of its launch in the country. Available for a starting price of Rs. 4.89 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the Elite i20 is offered in two engine options - a 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.4-litre diesel.

Hyundai India had proclaimed its target of around 8 per cent growth in domestic sales this year only recently, and these numbers for its new car are definitely a positive sign about the company's progress. Rakesh Srivastava, Senior Vice President (Sales & Marketing), Hyundai Motor India Ltd, had earlier said, "This year our target for sales in domestic market is 4.10 lakh units. Last year we had sold 3.8 lakh units in the domestic market. The past three months have seen improvement in customer sentiment resulting in better sales in the automotive segment."
As far as the car raking in the numbers is concerned, i.e. the Elite i20, it employs Hyundai's 'Fluidic Sculpture 2.0' design philosophy and looks absolutely different from the old model. The front fascia gets a new signature hexagonal grille and a new thin horizontal strip that meets the head-lamps. The rear profile also looks completely different, thanks to the boomerang tail-lights, and new wrap-around windows. Then there is also the side profile with the dark treatment of the C-pillar. The cabin has been refurbished too and with an extended wheelbase, the Elite i20 is more spacious than before.

The company's Chennai facility currently has a capacity of about 6.4 lakh units per annum, which can be stretched to 6.8 lakh units with change in shifts. Guess, the upgrade of production capacity might happen sooner than Hyundai expected to.
