The semiconductor chip shortage has disrupted production plans in the auto industry with majority automakers struggling with production delays, leading to longer waiting period for customers. Hyundai Motor India too has been bearing the brunt of chip shortage though the situation has improved compared to last year, the carmaker is still dealing with the aftershocks leading to increase in its backlog for car delivery. The company has a backlog of around 1.30 lakh units, resulting into a 3 - 4 month waiting period across models.

carandbike reached out to Hyundai Motor India and in its statement the company said, "We are anticipating a further uptick in demand of our cars across segments during the festive season. We will continue to focus on matching supply with demand. With continuously improving semiconductor supply month after month, our production is now at optimum levels. As the demand is still exceeding supply, our priority during festive season will be to reduce waiting period and expedite delivery of cars to our valued customers. The approximate waiting period currently ranges from 3 to 4 months across models."

Festive season is usually the period when buyers' sentiment is positive and the industry witnesses higher than usual demand. Automakers also roll out several offers, discount and special edition packages around this auspicious period in a bid to cash in the demand. That said, the waiting period is likely to increase further this time around given the supply constraints.
