Hyundai India Registers 3.8% Drop In July Sales

Hyundai India today announced registering a 3.8 per cent decline in total sales for the month of July 2019. Last month, the South Korean carmaker's cumulative sales stood at 57,310 units, compared to 59,590 vehicles that were sold in July 2018. The major impact came from the domestic market, which registered de-growth of 10 per cent, at 39,010 units, compared to 43,481 Hyundai cars sold during the same month last year.
However, Hyundai was able to brace the impact of the sales drop thanks to the substantial growth of 13.6 per cent in exports, reaching 18,300 units, compared to the 16,109 units exported during the same month in 2018. In fact, the month before that, in June too, Hyundai saw a drop of 7.3 per cent in cumulative sales, while exports grew by 9 per cent, compared to last year's sales numbers.

July was also a busy month for Hyundai Motor India, especially with the launch of the carmaker's first-ever electric car for India - the Hyundai Kona Electric. The electric compact SUV gets a 39.2 kWh battery the offers an ARAI certified range of 452 kilometres on a single charge, and it will be manufactured at the company's Chennai facility as well. Last month Hyundai also announced an Rs. 25,000 price hike for the Santro and a price hike up to price hike of up to Rs. 9200 on remaining models, effective from August 1.
