- New model in FTR 1200 range likely to be introduced later this year
Indian Motorcycle seems to be going all guns blazing on its FTR 1200 range for 2021, with yet another new model on the way. Recent type-approval documents filed in Europe show that Indian is planning to launch a FTR S Champion Edition, possibly a celebratory model to mark Indian Motorcycle's repeated wins at the American Flat Track championship with the Indian FTR750, the bike that inspired the street legal Indian FTR 1200 and its siblings, including the FTR 1200 Rally, and the FTR Carbon.

The name of the FTR S Champion Edition may sound similar to the mid-spec Indian FTR S, but dimensions in the type-approval documents suggest that the FTR S Champion Edition will be actually based on the FTR Rally. It will share the same 1,203 cc, v-twin engine which makes 120 bhp and 120 Nm of peak torque, with a 6-speed gearbox. And with 2287 mm length, and the 19-inch front and 18-inch rear wheel combination, it's apparent that the Champion Edition will be based on the FTR Rally. The Champion Edition could also use the same wire spoke wheels of the Rally, although the documents show that it's 4 kg lighter than the Rally with a kerb weight of 236 kg.

What is not clear is how the FTR S Champion Edition will look like. If it will actually be paying homage to the FTR750's flat track racing success, it's natural that it borrows the same livery as the race bike, but the FTR Carbon already shares its colour scheme with the FTR750 rally bike. The new special edition model is expected to be introduced in the next few months, and we won't be surprised if Indian Motorcycle does introduce it in India as well.
