Kawasaki Z900RS To Be Unveiled At Tokyo Motor Show

- Kawasaki Z900RS design inspired by 1970s Kawasaki Z1
- Kawasaki has posted a teaser video of the Z900RS
- The Z900RS will be unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show
Kawasaki will unveil a modern-classic iteration of its mid-size naked the Kawasaki Z900. The new model, to be called the Kawasaki Z900RS, will be introduced at the Tokyo Motor Show on October 25, 2017. The Z900RS gets design inspired by the 1970s Kawasaki Z1, but will be a modern motorcycle in all aspects. Kawasaki has posted a teaser video of the upcoming model on the company's YouTube channel, confirming earlier reports that the Japanese motorcycle manufacturer is in fact, working on a modern classic.

The Z900RS will be based on the Kawasaki Z900, so it should get the same 948 cc, in-line four engine which makes 123 bhp at 9,500rpm and 98.6 Nm at 7,500 rpm. While modern classics have been quite the rage in recent years internationally, the only retro model in Kawasaki's line-up, the W800 has been discontinued. Seeing the current market trends, and how manufacturers like Triumph and BMW Motorrad are seeing a lot of interest in their modern classic range, the Z900RS could be a success, particularly if Kawasaki manages to price the bike competitively.

We were expecting the Kawasaki Z900RS to be unveiled at the EICMA show in Milan in November, but looks like Kawasaki doesn't want to wait any longer with a model which has a lot riding on its commercial success. As of now, there's no word on when the Z900RS will be launched in India, or if at all. Considering the interest in Triumph's modern classic range however, Kawasaki may very well introduce this model in India as well, once the new model goes on sale.
