Simply paying for the bike is not where the expense ends. One also needs to factor in the cost of maintaining it, re-fuelling it, etc. Therefore, determining what you need a bike for and then deciding which bike you should go for is crucial in making the right decision.
Once the purpose has been determined, you can start researching for the bike. You should - compare prices, gather information, go physically and check out the vehicles. Doing so will ensure that you choose the best bike possible.
Since the vehicle you are going for has already had an owner, it is very important to check out the vehicle thoroughly for any hidden damage or faults. The owner may try to conceal any faults, so inspect thoroughly.
The vehicle may appear all shiny and new from the outside, but its real value can only be determined if you take a test ride and check the performance of the vehicle yourself.

Once you have locked in on a vehicle, check whether the chassis number on the bike's plate and registration certificate match with the one present on the engine. If they don't, do not purchase the vehicle.
Ask the seller to provide you with the servicing record of the vehicle. It will help you understand how many times the bike has been serviced and whether or not it needs more repairs or not.
Ask for the following documents from the seller – RC, Insurance Papers, PUC Certificate, RTO Application forms and sales receipt. If these documents are present, it means that the seller is legit and that you can purchase his or her vehicle without any worries.
Negotiating and paying the right price for the vehicle is important because you should try to save as much as possible and not be ripped off for a second-hand bike.
