KTM RC16 MotoGP Bike Gets Approval For Track-Only Production Version

- KTM CEO has confirmed the RC16 will go in production as a 2018 model
- Power will be restricted to 240hp on the KTM RC16 track bike
- The KTM RC16 track only bike is expected to be priced around 1-1.20 Euros
Now we know that KTM has already announced its entry into MotoGP next season and also made its debut racing debut at Valencia on the new RC16 race bike. While you have to be skilled and recruited by the Austrian bike maker to get your hands on the RC16, KTM boss Stefan Pierer has now confirmed that a limited edition track-only version of the RC16 for customers will enter production as a 2018.
In a recent statement, KTM CEO, Stefan Pierer said, "Next year we will be racing with the RC16, but a year later we will tackle it. We want to build at least 100 pieces and also offer this product at a very affordable price. We want to be as close to the MotoGP bikes as possible. 270 hp will of course not be, but with 240 hp one must count reliably."

KTM RC16 MotoGP
The KTM RC16 will be limited to around 100 units, while power will be restricted to 240hp from the litre-class V4 high performance engine. In comparison, the MotoGP version of the hyperbike makes 270hp. So, yes, while the power output has been mellowed down on the 'civilian' version of the track only bike, it will still be more than a handful for whoever manages to race it around.
The KTM RC16 falls on the same lines as Honda's RC213V-S and Ducati Desmosedici, both of which are track-only versions based on their much more powerful MotoGP race bikes. Pierer also spoke about the bike being more reliable, despite the overwhelming power, which should it make it relatively easier to live with. That said, parts are going to be top notch on the RC16 with WP sourced suspension, carbon fibre chassis and body, as well as Brembo brakes.

KTM will be the new factory team at MotoGP next year
Details on the design is very scarce as of now. However, you can expect the track-only KTM RC16 to resemble the MotoGP version. The Austrian bike maker is expected to price the hyperbike around 1,00,000 or 1,20,000 Euros, which equals to around Rs. 73 - 88 lakh (excluding taxes). So, if the ultimate Katoom is your thing and a track to your disposal, you know where to put your money.
