Maruti Ciaz Ropes in 10,000 Pre-Launch Bookings

Launched recently in India, Maruti Suzuki India's long awaited Ciaz is finally available for sale in the price bracket of Rs 6.99 lakh - Rs 9.80 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). With over pre-launch booking orders of 10,000 the sedan has already made its presence felt in the C segment. Dealers started accepting bookings for the new Ciaz effective September 3, 2014. Its closest rivals Honda City and Hyundai Verna sell about 7,000 units and 3,000 units per month, respectively. At this pace, it seems that the company will be able to accomplish its aim of selling 60,000 to 80,000 units of the vehicle within a year of its launch, and becoming one of the most prominent players in the mid-sized sedan segment as well.

Aggressive pricing and best in segment fuel efficiency is further going to work in favour of the company. The feature packed Ciaz range comprise of 6 petrol variants including four manual and two automatic variants, and four diesel trims all matched to a five-speed manual transmission. Petrol variants house a 1.4 litre, K-Series, petrol engine that is capable of developing maximum power output of 94bhp along with peak torque of 130Nm. A five-speed manual transmission and a four-speed automatic gearbox are available on the petrol range. The petrol engine is claimed to deliver decent mileage of 20.73 kmpl.
Diesel variants get the Fiat-sourced 1.3 litre, Multi-jet diesel powertrain outputting pinnacle power of 89bhp and 200Nm of top torque. Diesel powered Ciaz is vouched to be the India's most frugal car with a claimed fuel economy of 26.21 kmpl. Ciaz is targeted at the young professionals and hence company plans to roll out unique online and offline marketing campaigns for the sedan in future to lure customers.
