Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara Will Get Biggest In Class Panoramic Sunroof

Maruti Suzuki is set to unveil a brand new compact SUV in the Indian market on July 20, 2022. Named Grand Vitara, the upcoming SUV was developed by Maruti Suzuki and Toyota jointly, and will sport cosmetic differences to the recently unveiled Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, with the underpinnings being the same. Having said that, one such cosmetic difference on the interior between the two SUVs could be the size of the panoramic sunroof. Maruti Suzuki recently released a teaser video claiming that the upcoming compact SUV will feature biggest in class panoramic sunroof.

The freshly launched 2022 Maruti Suzuki Brezza became the first Maruti Suzuki car to go on sale in India with a sunroof, and now the Grand Vitara will pick up where the Brezza left off, and feature a large panoramic sunroof, which is said to be the biggest in class. Apart from that, the compact SUV is expected to feature a 9-inch infotainment system paired with a 7-inch fully digital instrument cluster and a head-up display (HUD), ventilated seats, wireless phone charging, connected car tech and much more. In terms of design, the Grand Vitara will have some differences to the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, but will have similar dimensions, putting it in the middle of the compact SUV range in terms of size. The Grand Vitara will be manufactured by Toyota as a part of the Suzuki-Toyota global partnership.

Powering the compact SUV will be 2 engine options, both being 1.5-litre petrol engines. The first of the two will be the Maruti Suzuki developed 1.5-litre K Series engine which has a mild-hybrid system derived from an integrated starter motor generator (ISG). This engine puts out 100 bhp and 135 Nm of peak torque, and will be paired with a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. The other offering will be the Toyota sourced 1.5-litre TNGA engine equipped with THS (Toyota Hybrid System) and e-drive transmission. The engine has a standalone output of 91 bhp and 122 Nm of torque, and is assisted by an electric motor which has an output of 79 bhp and 141 Nm of instant torque. Combined, the strong-hybrid engine puts out 113 bhp. This variant of the SUV will also have the ability to run on EV only mode for short durations and limited speeds.
