Maserati To Take On Tesla And Porsche With New Alfieri Sports Car

At the Capital Markets Day speech of parent company Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, its luxury brand Maserati boss Tim Kuniskis said that the company will take on the Porsche and even the Tesla with its new Alfieri Sports Car. Moreover, the company announced that the new Alfieri Sports Car will come in both coupe, cabriolet versions and an electric version. However, Kuniskis did not reveal a timeframe for the launch of the new Alfieri sports car, but it will debut before 2022.

Maserati will also launch 8 new plug-in hybrids and four new full-electric versions as the company hopes to revamp its portfolio with new products by 2022. The new strategy also includes replacement for the Levante SUV, Ghibli and Quattroporte. Maserati also plans to use Ferrari powertrains in all its future and new models, including the new Alfieri sports car.

The new Maserati Alfieri Sports Car will be the halo car for the brand and will be built on a new aluminum space frame with a fully modular chassis and three "state-of-the-art powertrains, including a plug-in hybrid version. According to Kuniskis, one of the new Alfieri Sports Car will get an all-electric version with three-motor and all-wheel drive system with torque vectoring on offer. Moreover, the new Maserati Alfieri Sports Car EV will also carry a 800V battery technology. And this electric Alfieri Sports Car will take on the Tesla Model S as it will be capable of going from standstill to 100kmph in less than 2 seconds.

Maserati had showcased the Alfieri concept back in 2014, when it was said to be powered by a V8 engine. However, due to strict emissions norms, the company chose to use the Ferrari-built 3.0-litre instead. This will also form the base of the Alfieri hybrid's electric motor.
