New-Generation Mercedes-Benz S-Class India Launch Date Confirmed

- The new-generation S-Class goes on sale in India on June 17, 2021
- The new petrol and diesel engines will come with EQ Boost tech
- The new S-Class will take on the BMW 7 Series, Audi A8L and the likes
Mercedes-Benz India will launch the new-generation S-Class in the country very soon. The automaker has announced that the brand's flagship sedan will arrive in the country on June 17, 2021. The V223 (long wheelbase) S-Class made its global debut in September last year and finally makes its way to the Indian market. Much like the outgoing version, the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class will also be locally assembled but the initial units could be fully imported. This will be the German auto giant's second launch for the month after introducing the Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 - its new flagship luxury SUV. Prices for the new S-Class are likely to begin from Rs. 1.5 crore (ex-showroom).

India will get the long-wheelbase version of the S-Class, which sits longer, wider and taller than the predecessor
The 2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class is longer by 34 mm, wider by 51 mm and taller by 12 mm. The wheelbase has also been extended by 50 mm, along with the front track by 35 mm and the rear track by 51 mm. While the overall proportions appear compact thanks to the short overhangs, the cabin space has vastly improved. The sedan sports a new design language that looks sleek. The LED headlamps now get with new digital light technology, while the wraparound LED taillights are a big departure from the older models. Another big change is the new flush-fitting door handles to optimise airflow on the S-Class, which bring the drag coefficient down to just 0.22 cd.
The cabin takes a step higher in opulence but the highlights are the new set of screens. The model gets a 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system in the centre along with a digital console. Mercedes says there are 27 fewer knobs and dials on the new S-Class over its predecessor. Other upgrades also include capacitive controls on the steering wheel, Burmester high-end 4D sound system, ambient lighting with over 263 optic LED lights through the cabin, voice command, and a whole lot more.

The new-generation S-Class also boasts 38 mm more elbow room at the front, while the rear gets 24 mm more legroom and marginally more elbow room and headroom than the current model. The W223 S-Class is also the world's first car to get a frontal airbag for rear-seat passengers. It will also get pre-safe Impulse Control, E-Active Body Control adaptive suspension, and possibly Level 3 autonomous driving capabilities on the India-spec version.
Engine options will include the 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder petrol and diesel with the EQ Boost 48-volt mild-hybrid system. The motor is good for 362 bhp and 500 Nm on the S450, while the S500 comes with 429 bhp and 520 Nm. There's also the twin-turbo V8 petrol S580 with 469 bhp. For diesel buyers, the new S 350d packs the 3.0-litre mill with 282 bhp and 600 Nm of peak torque. All engines are paired with the 9-speed automatic gearbox.
