Nissan's Scoot Quad is a Re-badged Twizy

The Nissan New Mobility Concept (NMC), also known as the Scoot Quad, is a 2-seater electric vehicle (EV) that is touted to be the future of commuter vehicles. The EV is basically a re-badged version of the Renault Twizy which is currently sold in parts of Europe. The Nissan New Mobility Concept is currently not available for customers to purchase in America as the vehicle is yet to be categorised into a particular segment.

Scoot Networks operates a fully-electric mobility service in the city of San Francisco where customers can hire light electric vehicles to commute within the city. The company has recently tied up with Nissan and has added 10 all-electric Nissan NMCs to its fleet and has called them Scoot Quads. The Scoot Quad EV is a compact 4-wheeler that has a range of approximately 100kms and is capable of achieving a top speed of 80km/h although it has been limited to 40km/h in America. With regards to its partnership with Scoot Networks, the Executive Director of Nissan Future Lab, Rachel Nguyen, said," As large cities continue to grow into megacities globally, we need to understand how transportation is changing and look ahead to anticipate what transportation needs will look like in the future. Scoot Networks is an ideal partner in this research project because they are fulfilling a need that has emerged in the San Francisco market, and they share a similar commitment to zero-emissions mobility."

The Scoot Quad features a 1+1 tandem seating layout but cannot be categorized as a bike as it's driven like a car, has 4 wheels, and offers way more protection for its occupants than any 2-wheeler. The side profile features slim fold-up scissor doors but the absence of windows does mean that the car is partially open to air at all times. It requires a 200V type charger and can be fully juiced in approximately 4 hours.

Interestingly, Nissan choosing to re-brand the Renault Twizy EV in America as the Nissan New Mobility Concept is the first instance of the company re-branding an electric vehicle offering. Whether or not the company plans on incorporating this strategy on other cars and in other countries is as yet uncertain but what we are hoping for is an influx of even more new electric vehicles from the Japanese carmaker.
