Official: Mercedes CLA-Class to Be Launched Within 6 Months

Mercedes-Benz India, today at the launch of CLA45 AMG, proclaimed its plans to bring in the regular version of the saloon in India. Eberhard Kern, MD and CEO, Mercedes-Benz India, hinted at the launch of CLA sedan in the country within the next 6 months. While the AMG variant has been priced at Rs 68.5 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), we expect the regular avatar of the sedan to be priced at Rs 30 lakh. At this price, the saloon will gun right up against Audi's upcoming entry-level sedan A3, which gearing up for a launch in India on August 7th.
The saloon is already being sold in international markets where it is available in both, petrol and diesel engine options. Along with these, a 1,991cc mill that pumps 208bhp of top power and 350Nm of peak torque is also on offer. Mercedes could bring both, petrol and diesel, variants of the sedan to India, however, it is too early to comment on that.
The CLA 220 CDI variant available for sale in overseas markets comes fitted with a 2143cc powertrain that yields 168bhp of maximum power and 350Nm of peak torque. The Europe-spec model of the CLA sedan delivers an impressive performance along with a decent fuel economy. However, the India-spec model will be a tad bit modified to suit our market, so there is a chance the mileage and performance figures of the India-bound model might be different from that of the international model.
