Renault's Kwid-Based 7-Seater To Be Called Triber; Launch This Year

Renault India has finally released the name of its upcoming compact 7-seater, which will be called the Renault Triber. The company has posted a 'Coming Soon' banner on its official website with the hashtag 'Be The Tribe'. While the website says that the MPV is based on a new platform, we are pretty sure it's based on a modified CMF-A platform. The CMF-A platform spawns the Kwid and the company has confirmed the new MPV will be positioned in India between the Kwid and Renault's SUV offerings.
Prototype models of the upcoming Renault Triber have been undergoing testing in India for a while now, and we have already shared several spy photos with you. In fact, the website also mentions that the new MPV is slated to be launched in India in the second half of 2019. Renault has said that the new compact 7-seater has been designed and developed for the Indian market and will be launched as a new segment. Based in the test mules we have seen so far, the 7-seater model will come with compact proportions but we doubt it will be a sub-4 metre like the Datsun GO+. Renault has claimed that the new model will be spacious and ultra modular car will offer 'best-in-class space with first-of-its-kind modularity'.

New Renault MPV test mule gets steel wheels, but we do expect the production model to offer alloys
Visually, the new Renault Triber will come with broad window frames which should make the cabin feel bright and spacious, quite similar to the Renault Lodgy MPV. The hood line on the side too is rising and the shoulder line looks more pronounced and the car appears to come with a set of 16-inch wheels. Feature offerings are likely to include projector headlamps, LED DRLs, LED taillamps, ORVMs with integrated turn lights and more.

New Renault Triber will come with a newly designed cabin with dual tone treatment
As for the cabin, judging by the earlier seen spy photos, the car will come with a newly designed dashboard with two-tone black and beige treatment with a silver panel around the trapezoidal air-con vents. The MPV will also get a large centre touchscreen display for infotainment, which could come with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Right now it's too soon to comment on engine options, but it could get the 1.0-litre engine on the Kwid, albite with more power and maybe a turbocharger as well. Transmission duties could be taken care of by a 5-speed manual gearbox and an AMT unit as well.
