Highlights

  • The Licerion EV battery promises a breakthrough in electric car batteries
  • It can be charged up to 80% in 15 minutes
  • Sion Power will demo the battery at the Battery Show NA in September

Sion Power will demonstrate new Licerion-EV batteries at the upcoming Battery Show NA in Novi, Michigan which will be held next month between September 14 and 16. The company is promising a breakthrough in battery technology. It will have an energy density of 400 wh/kg and 810 wh/L in the case of a full scale 17 Ah large format pouch cell. The Licerion-EV technology is based on metallic lithium anode which also provides a good life cycle for safety and fast charging capability.

The 6 Ah Licerion-EV battery was already independently tested achieving 800 cycles although there is no information of the remaining capacity. In the case of a smaller 1.8 Ah battery cell the remaining capacity was 70 per cent. Fast charging on these batteries takes just 15 minutes for 80 per cent.

Efficient, safe and long last electric battery packs are central to the EV revolution

"In independent testing, 6 Ah Licerion-EV cells reached over 800 cycles, demonstrated fast charge capability (80% of charge in 15 minutes), excellent power capability, and safety," the company revealed.
Sion Power has revealed these batteries meet the requirements of next generation automotive targets. Sion Power has set up a pilot line at its facility in Tucson, Arizona.

"This is a watershed moment for Sion Power's push toward next-generation electrified vehicles. I am extremely proud of what we have accomplished. Our Licerion-EV technology has demonstrated a blend of energy, safety, and electrical performance that is unmatched. We look forward to continued work with our partners to commercialize our revolutionary battery system," said Tracy Kelley, CEO of Sion Power.

More on this will be revealed at the Battery Show NA.
