The Jury Came, Drove and Voted! And your NDTV Car of the Year 2017 is - the Skoda Superb. As one of the most credible awards in the industry, the NDTV CNB Awards winners are voted on by a Jury that includes race car drivers, auto enthusiasts, members of the Indian and international motoring press and industry experts.
The Skoda Superb was launched earlier this year and apart from winning the coveted Car of the Year category, also won the award for the 'Best Fullsize Sedan of the Year'. The Skoda Superb beat thoroughbred contenders like the fan-favourite Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza along with the likes of the Tata Tiago, Volkswagen Ameo, and Hyundai Elantra to get top honours.
The 'CNB Viewers Choice Car of the Year' on the other hand was won by the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza by a considerable margin along with winning the crucial Compact SUV of the Year Award too. The Vitara Brezza also won the fast growing 'Subcompact SUV of the Year Award.' The Design of the Year Award was swept by the Volvo S90 which also won its category taking the 'NDTV Premium Car of the Year 2017'. This is the 12th edition of the NDTV Car and Bike Awards and as always there were a few surprises along the way. Here is a list of all the car categories and all the respective winners that took home one of the most prestigious awards in the Indian automobile industry.
Small Car of the Year: Datsun redi-GO

The Tata Tiago beat the likes of the KUV100 and the Mahindra e2o plus to win the coveted award. The Jury liked the design and finish of the interior and of course the new progressive design language from Tata Motors.
Subcompact Sedan of the Year: Volkswagen Ameo
The feature rich Volkswagen Ameo took top honours in the Subcompact Sedan of the Year category. Although there wasn't much competition in the compact sedan segment this year, the Ameo does go up against the Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire, Honda Amaze, Ford Figo Aspire and the Tata Bolt. The Ameo is priced competitively but is the most premium offering in this segment.
Midsize Sedan of the Year: Hyundai Elantra
The Hyundai Elantra was the category winner for the Midsize Sedan of the Year for the NDTV Car and Bike Awards 2017 and was also in third place in the overall 'Car of the Year' rankings.
Fullsize Sedan of the Year: Skoda Superb
Premium Compact Sedan of the Year: Jaguar XE
Fighting off stiff competition from the new Audi A4, the fun to drive Jaguar XE managed to thrill our jury on the track and on the road with its great styling and its rear-wheel-drive balanced chassis.
Multi Utility Vehicle of the Year: Toyota Innova
The Toyota Innova in its all new avatar got top honors in this prestigious MPV of the year category by beating the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross. The Innova impressed with its new luxurious interiors, updated engine and the fact that it has single handedly opened up the Indian market to the notion of a luxury MPV.
Subcompact SUV of the Year: Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza
Compact SUV or Crossover of the Year: Hyundai Tucson
The popular Hyundai Tucson beat the likes of the Honda BR-V and the Fiat Avventura Urban Cross to clinch the Compact SUV or Crossover of the Year Award at the NDTV Car and Bike of the Year 2017 Awards. The Tucson also featured in our overall top five cars in the running for the Car of the Year Award.
Fullsize SUV of the Year: Ford Endeavour
The Ford Endeavour just barely beat its arch rival, the brand new Toyota Fortuner to win in the Fullsize SUV of the Year Category. Our jury liked the design on the exterior and interior front along with the road dynamics that the Endeavour offered.
Premium SUV of the Year: Jaguar F-Pace
Jaguar's first SUV ever took top honours in this category edging ahead of some serious competition like the BMW X1 and the Mercedes-Benz GLC. The Jaguar F-Pace impressed with its exterior and interior design and with its road manners at the Buddh International Circuit.
Luxury SUV of the Year: Audi Q7
As our largest category of the year comprising of five nominees, the NDTV Luxury SUV of the Year 2017 is the Audi Q7. The other nominees were the Jeep Wrangler, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Mercedes-Benz GLE and the Mercedes-Benz GLS.
Premium Car of the Year: Volvo S90
Luxury Car of the Year: BMW 7 Series
Going up against competition like the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class isn't an easy task but the new BMW 7 Series took top honours in the Luxury Car of the Year Award. The M-Sport 7 Series impressed our jurors with not jut its luxury, interior trim and gadgets but also with its sheer road presence and driving dynamics that almost lends it a sports sedan feel.
Performance Car of the Year: Ford Mustang
After making its long awaited entry into India and all other right hand drive markets around the world, the Ford Mustang with its relative affordable price tag and 400bhp impressed our jury. Of course, the ability to do massive burnouts also helped it win the NDTV Performance Car of the Year 2017 award.
Supercar of the Year: Audi R8 V10+
The Audi R8 V10+ is our final winner in the 4-wheeler segment and is definitely one of the most striking cars in the list. Having fended off competition like the new Porsche 911 both on and off the racetrack, the Audi R8 V10+ won the NDTV Supercar of the Year 2017 Award.
Viewers Choice Car of the Year Award: Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza
The masses have spoken! The NDTV Viewers Choice Car of the Year 2017 is the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza. The Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza won by a thumping margin and as always, if you have voted for it, you stand a chance to win it too.
