Third-Generation Skoda Superb Achieves New Production Milestone

- Skoda Superb was first launched in 2001
- 900,000 vehicles across 3 generations of the Superb have been produced
- The Superb's 3rd generation model was launched in India earlier this year
The automaker is also celebrating 15 years of the Superb, though the name's history can be traced back all the way to 1934, when the Skoda 640 Superb was launched. Among its several features, the most noteworthy were its advanced independent suspension and a 2.5-litre six-cylinder engine developing 55bhp. The company says only around 200 units of the 640 Superb ever left its production halls.

Underpinned by Volkswagen's popular MQB platform, the third generation Skoda Superb receives the same engine options as its predecessor: the 1.8 TSI petrol and 2.0 TDI CR diesel. While the petrol develops 177.5bhp and 320Nm of torque, the diesel engine produces 174.6bhp and 350Nm of torque. For transmission, the Superb is offered with the choice between a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 7-speed automatic Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG) unit on the petrol motor whereas the diesel the 6-speed DSG automatic as standard.
Skoda's current line-up in India includes the Superb, Rapid, Octavia, and Yeti. The brand is expected to launch four new cars here in 2017, including the Kodiaq SUV.
