- The 2021 BMW S 1000 R is now on sale in India
- Prices start from Rs. 17.9 lakh (ex-showroom)

BMW Motorrad has launched the 2021 BMW S 1000 R in India. It will be available in three variants - Standard, Pro and Pro M Sport. The standard model is priced at Rs. 17.9 lakh, the Pro variant is priced at Rs. 19.75 lakh while the Pro M Sport is the most expensive and loaded variant, which is priced at Rs. 22.50 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom. BMW Motorrad has begun taking bookings for all variants of the 2021 S 1000 R across dealerships. The S 1000 R goes up against the Ducati Streetfighter V4 and the Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS in India.

(The S 1000 R is based on the S 1000 RR and comes to India almost a couple of years after the new-gen S 1000 RR sportbike was launched. The S 1000 R uses the same engine, frame and swingarm as the RR. The design too has been updated significantly, with new body panels and a new LED headlight up front, with a DRL running across the unit, although the asymmetrical headlights on the old model had a lovely character that is missed on the new model)

(The new BMW S 1000 R gets a 999 cc in-line 4-cylinder engine, which makes 162 bhp and 114 Nm. BMW says that at least 80 Nm of torque is available from 3,000 rpm. The engine speed is reduced by 8 per cent and the fuel efficiency goes up by 8 per cent too. The torque curve has been kept linear for better performance and ease of riding. The engine itself is now 5 kg lighter. The top speed of the motorcycle is over 250 kmph and the 0-100 kmph sprint takes a scant 3.2 seconds. )

(The new S 1000 R gets a new 6.5-inch TFT screen with smartphone connectivity and turn by turn navigation. In terms of electronics, the naked roadster gets a six-axis inertial measurement unit with dynamic traction control and ABS Pro as standard fitments. There are three riding modes as standard which are rain, road and dynamic. Additionally, one can also opt for the Riding modes 'Pro' package which has a configurable 'dynamic pro' mode along with 'engine drag torque control', 'power wheelie' and 'dynamic brake control' functions along with ABS Pro)

(The BMW S 1000 R also gets an M Sport variant with optional fitments and a M Motorsport inspired colour scheme. It gets a white, blue and red colour combination along with the optional M package that consists of M forged wheels or M Carbon wheels, lightweight battery, Titanium exhaust, M endurance chain, M lap-trigger unlock code, M sport seat and an M fuel cap)
