TVS Working On New Electric Scooter

- The electric scooter will be a full-sized scooter
- The upcoming electric scooter will share some components with the Jupiter
- Likely to be showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo
TVS Motor Company is working on a new electric scooter, a TVS official has confirmed. The new electric scooter will be TVS Motor Company's first product in the electric two-wheeler space. The new electric scooter though is still in the prototype stage, and a production model is still some time away. So far, details are scarce on the electric scooter, but it's likely to be a full size scooter and share components with TVS' existing scooters like the hugely popular TVS Jupiter.
When contacted, TVS refused to talk anything further about the electric scooter, so we don't know yet what kind of batteries will be used and what will be the likely range of the electric scooter. This year, TVS is also expected to introduce a new 125 cc scooter sometime just around the festive season. From all indications, the electric scooter is still in the testing stages, and the launch of a full-fledged production model will likely take around a year or more.
It will be interesting to see how TVS is going about sourcing components as well as the powerplant for its electric two-wheeler project. So far, details are scant, and we don't even know if the electric motor has been developed in-house by TVS or sourced from an external supplier. TVS may well end up showcasing a concept electric model at the 2018 Auto Expo, so that's when a lot of upcoming TVS products including the company's upcoming electric two-wheeler range will be unveiled. It's early days yet, and we can't predict a price point for the upcoming electric scooter. But expect it to be priced slightly higher than the internal combustion engine scooters like the Jupiter.
