Volkswagen Ameo Diesel: 7 Things to Know

- Volkswagen will launch the Ameo diesel during the festive season
- The car will get Volkswagen's tried and tested 1.5-litre TDI engine
- The engine will come mated to a DSG unit as an option
1) Volkswagen will launch the diesel version of the Ameo sub-compact sedan around the upcoming festive season, most likely in the month of October 2016.
2) The upcoming Volkswagen Ameo diesel will be powered by a re-tuned version of the 1.5-litre TDI, four-cylinder diesel engine that does duty on both its younger and older cousins - Polo hatchback and Vento sedan.

3) It is being said that the updated oil burner now produces an increased power output of 108bhp and develops a peak torque of 230Nm. The same engine makes 89bhp in the Polo and 103bhp in the Vento, which reportedly makes the Ameo the most powerful car among all three.
4) As far as transmission options go, the Ameo diesel will come mated to Volkswagen's tried and tested DSG units as an option, along with the 5-speed manual gearbox. This makes the Ameo the first sub-4 metre sedan to get the popular DSG autobox.
5) The Volkswagen Ameo will also be the only diesel powered sub-4 metre sedan in the market to get an automatic gearbox. While technically we do have the Maruti Suzuki DZire and Tata Zest in the list, but the diesel versions of both these cars come mated to an Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) unit rather than an actual auto gearbox.

5) While Volkswagen never really opened up about why the Ameo diesel is actually late to the market, the delay is most likely related to the massive recall the carmaker issued for the diesel version of its entire line-up (except for the Beetle) to fix the emission software pertaining to the Dieselgate scandal. The recall also included the the 1.5-litre TDI versions of the Polo and Vento.
6) The new Volkswagen Ameo diesel will also come with few additional features and equipment compared to the petrol variants which indicates the car will get a heavier price tag compared to the latter.
7) With the petrol version of the Ameo retailed at a starting price of Rs. 5.14 Lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai) we expect the diesel version of the car to come at a starting price of over Rs. 5.5 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai).
