Volkswagen Ameo Diesel Launched In India; Price Starts At Rs. 6.33 Lakh

- The range-topping variant of the Ameo diesel is priced at Rs. 9.31 lakh
- The updated 1.5-litre TDI engine develops 108bhp and 250Nm of torque
- The Ameo diesel comes with VW's tried and tested 7-speed DSG unit
The new Ameo comes powered by an updated version of the 1.5-litre TDI, 4-cylinder diesel engine that churns out 108bhp and develops a peak torque of 250Nm. As mentioned earlier, the transmission option includes a 5-speed manual gearbox along with Volkswagen's tried and tested 7-speed DSG unit, unlike the petrol version that we drove, which only gets the manual gearbox.
Announcing the launch of the new Ameo diesel, Michael Mayer - Director, Volkswagen India said, "We have witnessed a successful launch of our made-in-India and made-for-India Ameo Petrol during the summer this year. Now with the Ameo Diesel being introduced during the festivities, we have an opportunity to cater to a wider set of customers, thereby further expanding the Volkswagen family. Ameo diesel will be equipped with a 5-speed manual and our very popular 7-speed DSG gearbox transmission making it the most compelling proposition in the segment."

In terms of other offerings, the Ameo diesel offers the same features that you get in the petrol variant like - cruise control, rain sensing wipers, all-four anti-pinch power windows, cooled glovebox and more. As for the gizmos, the car comes with a touchscreen multimedia music system with Mirror link, I-pod connectivity, phonebook / SMS viewer, ESP and Hill hold control, Volkswagen's 'Climatronic' - an automatic AC with dust & pollen filter and electrically adjustable ORVMs.
Further talking about the safety features of the car Mayer said, "Volkswagen's commitment to safety is not an option and is intrinsic to the brand's DNA. Ameo Diesel comes equipped with standard ABS and driver and passenger airbags making it one of the safest cars in the market."
As mentioned before the Ameo diesel comes loaded with many first-in-class features, compared to its competitors, which makes the car one of the best subcompact sedans on paper. That said we will have a definite answer to that once we get to drive the car later this week. So watch the space for our review of the new Volkswagne Ameo diesel.
