Chinese tech giant Xiaomi has announced that its flagship high-performance electric, the SU7 Ultra, has set a new lap record at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. The car completed the 20.8-kilometre circuit in 7:04.957 minutes, making it the fastest production electric vehicle to lap the track. Notably, this time surpasses those set by the previous champions, the Rimac Nevera (7:05.298) and the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT (7:07.55).

According to Xiaomi, the record-breaking lap was achieved on the vehicle's first timed attempt and was supported using an optional track package. The SU7 Ultra, revealed in 2024, is the performance-oriented version of the standard SU7. The name “SU” stands for “Speed Ultra,” and the model features a prominent front splitter, reworked air vents and fenders, dual bonnet vents, extended side skirts, a rear wing, and a pronounced rear diffuser.

Powering the SU7 Ultra is a tri-motor all-wheel-drive setup, developed entirely in-house by Xiaomi. The system includes two V8s-series motors, each producing 570 bhp and 635 Nm, along with a V6s-series motor rated at 387 bhp, bringing the combined output to 1,527 bhp. Xiaomi states that it can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 1.97 seconds, hit 200 kmph in 5.96 seconds, and reach 300 kmph in 15.07 seconds, with a top speed exceeding 350 kmph.

It’s worth mentioning that in October 2024, a prototype version of the SU7 Ultra completed a lap of the Nurburgring in 6:46.874 minutes, breaking the previous record for the fastest lap by a four-door vehicle at the circuit.
In addition, the SU7 Ultra is set to debut in Gran Turismo 7, becoming the first Chinese electric car to appear in the iconic racing game series. The car will be available in an upcoming update for both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 consoles.
