Audi India sets three records in sales

German luxury car major Audi continues to dominate its number one position in the Indian luxury car segment staying ahead despite growing competition. The car maker clocked sales of 2,740 units in the January-March quarter (it's highest quarterly no), amidst the overall gloom in motown. In March alone, Audi India also clocked its highest sales ever in a month at 1404 units. Audi says passing on the full benefit of the excise duty reduction to the customer has reflected in positive volumes.
Joe King, Head, Audi India says "We are looking forward to consolidate our position while growing profitably in the future as well. In line with our top-down strategy, we will be launching the next big Audi - Audi A3 Sedan later this year. Globally, the Audi A3 has been a great success and I feel that it is just the right product for the Indian market and will further delight customers across the country."
As expected, Audi also becomes the first luxury car manufacturer to sell more than 10,000 units in a year. The company saw sales of 10,126 units in 2013-14 compared to 9,350 units in the previous year. Audi also plans to expand its dealer network to 40 by the end of this year.
The other big German auto maker Mercedes Benz, which is currently in second place, also saw strong sales of 2554 units for the first quarter of 2014. For the full year, Mercedes Benz saw volumes surging 47% with 9,548 units sold in 2013-14 as against a much slower 6,491 units in the previous year.
Now at number three, BMW India hopes to reverse the slide from last year with a slew of launches early in the year. The company saw sales slip by 22% from 9,375 in 2012 to 7,327 in 2013.
Despite its late entry, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is also showing good progress selling 2,913 units in 2013, up 22% from a year ago.
