BMW was the first to showcase the laser headlamp technology and say that they were to offer the technology as an option on their production model - i8. However, Audi, at the same point in time, unveiled R8 LMX last month making it the first model from their stable to get that technology.
So, at this point in time the fight was again between the two German car manufacturers as to who would bring out the car first.
This time BMW beat them to it as they've just delivered the first i8s to customers in Germany. BMW presented the i8's to customers at a special ceremony. The hybrid supercar come with a plug-in hybrid powertrain that consists of a 1.5-litre TwinPower Turbo three-cylinder engine. Then there is an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery.
The i8 is capable of punching out 362bhp which allows the coupe to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 4.4 seconds and hit a limited top speed of 250 km/h. More importantly, the i8 averages 2.1 L/100 km and can travel up to 37 km on electricity alone.
The car will be launched in India this year and we cant wait for BMW to announce when.
