Skoda Set to Achieve New Milestone - 1 Million Cars Produced and Sold In 2014

2014 seems to have panned out rather well for Czech carmaker - Skoda. Between January and November, 2014, the Volkswagen-owned carmaker delivered 955,300 vehicles around the world, which is 34,500 more than the number in the whole of 2013, and 16,100 more than the previous record year - 2012. Skoda deliveries in November increased 10.1% to 90,200 units and was, in effect, the best November so far in the company's history. Interestingly, the China has been a strong driver of this growth; the company's sales in the country increased by 46.9% in November, 2014 over November, 2013.
Prof. Dr. h.c. Winfried Vahland, CEO, Skoda, said, "Skoda will set a new sales record this year. Following the positive results in November, the milestone of one million vehicles produced and sold in one calendar year is certain. Producing and selling one million Skoda cars for the first time in one year is a milestone for our brand, and has made the whole team very proud."
In Skoda's strongest European market, Germany, the brand delivered 12,100 vehicles this November (November 2013: 12,300). In the UK, it sold 5,600 vehicles, an increase of 0.3% over November last year. The manufacturer recorded double-digit growth in November in Spain (1,400 vehicles; up 12.1%), Belgium (1,500 vehicles; up 17.5%), Italy (1,300 vehicles; up 30.4%) and Portugal (200 vehicles; up 37.5%).
In China - the brand's strongest market, sales increased 46.9% to 26,800 vehicles last month (November 2013: 18,200). So far this year, it has sold 250,600 vehicles in China - more than in any previous calendar year. After its debut in China this summer, the model most in demand this November was the new Skoda Octavia, with sales increasing 112.4%.
As far India is concerned, the carmaker delivered 1,200 vehicles to customers this November (November 2013: 1,600).
