If you thought that the XL1 was the coolest car to come out of the Volkswagen stable, well, think again. This is the new XL Sport from Volkswagen and it celebrates the production of 200 million cars and what a way to celebrate. Like the XL1, this too is a feather weight as it features a CFRP monocoque and high-strength steel subframes.

The front suspension features pullrod actuation for the dampers, while the rear has the pushrod setup. The car's 18-inch magnesium-alloy wheels hide the ceramic brakes which are seen there. But it's what's under the hood that is most interesting.

The XL Sport gets a 90-degree V-twin found in the Ducati 1199 Superleggera sportbike. It redlines at 11,000 rpm and is mated to a 7-speed DSG and 197bhp is at your disposal. A run from 0-100km/h takes 5.7 seconds.

Volkswagen has done justice to the car and all at the Paris Motorshow agree that it is one of the sweetest things to land here. It's brilliant and looks good, not to forget that it is powered by the heart of a bike. The future is here!
