BMW Group Starts 2016 With Record Sales

After seeing a fruitful 2015 pull in record sales figures, German giant BMW is on track to continue with its resurgence. The company has reported a 7.5 per cent increase in sales in the month of January as compared to the same month last year. What's impressive is that the company has managed to achieve sustained growth as January 2015 itself saw a 7.5 per cent growth rate as compared to sales figures for the same month in 2014.

BMW Group sold a total of 152,879 units including those from BMW, MINI, and Rolls-Royce. Speaking with regards to the company's improving sales performances, Ian Robertson, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, said, "We are pleased to see the sustainable levels of growth we achieved in 2015 continuing into this year. Despite many markets showing continuing volatility, we remain optimistic that this positive trend will continue through 2016, our company's centenary year."

The passenger car division enjoyed positive growth rates for pretty much all its models. Driving this growth was the exceptional performance of the X range of SUVs, with the X1 in particular showing vast improvements. As compared to the same month last year, the BMW X1 showed an increase in growth rate of a whopping 60.4 per cent. The all-new X1 was recently launched in India as well at the Auto Expo 2016. Other top performers include the company's flagship 7 Series luxury sedan which grew by 26.3 per cent and the BMW X6 SUV which showed an increment of 24.2 per cent. MINI also achieved its best-ever sales figures for the month of January as a total of 18,867 vehicles were delivered worldwide, an 8.6 per cent increase.

In terms of zone performance, North America was a bit of a mixed bag as BMW and MINI in Mexico and Canada saw positive growths whereas the giant American market showed a 2.9 per cent slowdown in sales compared to January 2015. Europe continued to perform well as several important markets like France, Spain and Italy showing double digits increments. Deliveries in Asia were up by 9.8 per cent with Japan showing the highest growth rate of 19.3 per cent.

In addition to the good performance showcased by BMW and MINI, BMW AG's motorcycle division BMW Motorrad also started the year off on a positive note as they achieved a sales growth of 19.6 per cent. 7,488 BMW 2-wheelers were sold worldwide in January 2016, a record figure for BMW Motorrad in terms of January sales.
