The rumours of BMW adding another model to its i line-up have been doing the rounds for some time now. Adding fuel to the fire, German carmaker's CEO Harald Krueger suggested the there may indeed be some truth to those reports. Speaking to Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung, a German newspaper, Krueger said, "There is space if you look at it from the number point of view."

Though he refused to divulge any more details, word has it the addition to the BMW i line-up could sit between the i3 electric car and the i8 plug-in sportscar in the form of the i5. While the i3 and i8 are independent products, the i5 may be based on the 5 Series. Furthermore, it will reportedly be powered by an adaptation of the i8's plug-in hybrid powertrain instead of the i3's all-electric.

Reports further add that the i5 will be far more powerful than the i8 - with its total output somewhere in the range of 540bhp to over 600bhp. It will apparently also get a minimum of 2 electric motors. Just so you know, the i8's combined (petrol + electric) output is 357bhp.
