Datsun's GO-based sedan on-DO makes its global debut

After launching the GO hatchback in India, Datsun - Nissan's affordable car brand - has now unveiled the GO-based sedan called the 'on-DO' in Russia today. However, the launch will happen by the end of this year. Though, the sedan is built upon its hatchback sibling, the car has quite a different design. If compared with the the GO hatchback, the sedan features more squarish headlamps, a bigger and stretched out 'D-cut' grille, fog lamps (missing on the GO), safety side strip, different door handles and prominent character line. The car also has more glass area, which will result in a more airy feel and better visibility for passengers.
Quite obviously, being a sedan, the dimensions of the on-DO, too, are different from the GO. Measuring 4,337mm in length, 1700mm in width, 1500mm in height along with 2,476mm wheelbase, the on-DO is more spacious in every department compared to the GO - which is already the biggest hatchback in its league. The GO is 3,785mm in length, 1,635mm wide and is 1,485mm tall while the wheelbase stands at 2450mm.
Unlike what was expected, the on-DO doesn't share its engine with the GO hatchback. It sources its engine from a car called Granta, which is a product developed by Lada - a part of the Renault-Nissan-Lada group. The on-DO sedan will get a 1.6-litre petrol engine that churns out a maximum power of 87bhp.
The car will be priced below 400,000 Rubles (approximately Rs 6.80 lakh). Since, the sedan is specially designed for Russia, the chances of the on-GO coming to India are quite bleak, at least in the near future.
