The Delhi government has greenlit a hassle free process for installation of electric vehicle chargers in private and semi-public properties. The state government has approved a single window process that will take care of all details, approvals and documentation required for EV charger installation at private houses, housing societies, schools and hospitals among others. The government had received requests from apartment buildings, residents, welfare associations and mall owners among others, for installation of EV chargers. So, the Delhi government has approved an innovative, single-window process for quick and efficient installation of EV chargers.

There are only 77 EV charging stations in Delhi at present.

"Delhi will soon get an innovative, single-window process for installation of slow and fast EV chargers. The decision was taken at the charging infrastructure working group to empanel vendors through discoms for smooth roll-out of EV chargers in private and semi-public places," said Jasmine Shah, Vice-Chairperson of Dialogue and Development Commission (DDC)- a think tank of the Delhi government. The government too issued an statement saying, "In line with the vision set by CM Arvind Kejriwal of making Delhi the EV capital of India, Delhi will soon be the only city in the world where anyone can get an EV charger installed, net of Delhi government subsidy,by making a single phone call or applying online. The single-window facility can be used for rapid installation of thousands of EV chargers at residential spaces like apartments and group housing societies, institutional buildings like hospitals and commercial spaces like malls and theatres."

Delhi government is targeting 25 per cent EV transition in the next five years.

At present, Delhi has around 9000 registered electric vehicles including electric cars, two-wheelers and e-autorickshaws like the Mahindra Treo. However, there are also around 60,000 electric rickshaws operating in the city according to government records. Now for all EVs, there are just 77 functional EV charging stations in the city. The Delhi government EV policy introduces last year is targeting that 25 per cent EV transition happens in the next five years in national capital. The state government's "Switch Delhi" program too aims at adoption of more CNG and electric vehicles.
